Impulse overvoltage are transitional processes during which there is a sharp increase in voltage by a few times a second. Almost all modern enterprises are equipped with sensitive electric and electronic equipment (computer networks, telephony systems, power sources, data processing systems, and so on) that can break due to impulse overstrain. Therefore, they must ensure protection against impulse overstrain of their devices.
These sensitive devices and systems should have complex protection. In this case, several protective stages should be created. For this, impulse overstrain limiters and lightning current discharge are used. The latter belong to the first class of protection devices against impulse overvoltages (Uzip) — they allocate impulses with great energy without harming the equipment. The limiters that are considered the ultimate and third class Uzip are designed to protect terminal devices and distribution shields.
Protective devices of the first class are mounted, as a rule, mainly a distribution shield next to the cable entering point into the object. Uzip of the second class is placed in the distribution shields located inside the rooms, and the mechanisms of protection of the third class are installed near the sensitive devices.
Naturally, it is impossible to organize such protection on your own — real professionals are needed for this.
